Iron deficiency – Could it be what’s bringing you down?
I often see patients with some combination of these tell tale symptoms: tiredness, poor concentration, weakness, shortness of breath, irritability, dizziness, dull headaches. Most of the time, these patients are women and they are looking for help because the symptoms have become so bothersome that they feel they just cannot function properly anymore at work, at home or in general. In cases like these, the first thing that should be ruled out is iron deficiency. It is amazing how common low iron is, especially in women. Iron is by far the most common nutrient deficiency and in my own practice it is one of the most frequently prescribed nutritional supplements.
